What is Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)?

Balance. Harmony. Energy.

The TCM approach to healing is holistic, or systems-based. Rather than prescribing remedies with narrow healing scopes, TCM practitioners see symptoms as manifestations of multiple factors. While Western medicine is excellent at treating specific diseases, TCM is a solid alternative if you are keen on improving your entire well-being.

What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is one of the oldest and most commonly-used medical therapies in the world, where treatments provide healing without pharmaceutical medication.

How does acupuncture work?

The technique involves inserting hair-thin needles into specific acupuncture points throughout the body. Acupuncture can stimulate and arouse human body’s potential healing power. The needles may be manipulated by the hands or by an electrical stimulation.

Depending on the issue(s), acupuncture is used as an individual therapy or combined with herbal medicine.

Is acupuncture safe?

Acupuncture is extremely safe when performed by a Registered Acupuncturist or Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). The CCHP regulatory body of this medical profession sets a high standard for which acupuncturists must follow to ensure public safety. All of our acupuncturists are registered with the College.

What is Chinese Herbal Medicine?

Chinese herbal medicine is a core component of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) that uses natural substances—primarily plant-based herbs, along with some minerals to restore balance and support health. Guided by TCM diagnosis and principles such as Yin–Yang balance, herbs are prescribed in customized formulas rather than as single ingredients. Chinese herbal medicine is used to help manage a wide range of acute and chronic conditions, enhance the body’s natural healing capacity, and promote overall wellness, and it is commonly integrated with acupuncture, Tui-Na, and other TCM therapies.

What does a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) do?

A Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) is a licensed, regulated healthcare professional who treats physical conditions, chronic pain, and injuries using specialized, evidence-based soft tissue manipulation. RMTs use various massage techniques, including deep tissue or trigger point therapy to target specific issues within the body. These techniques help alleviate pain, improve mobility, and enhance overall well-being.

What is Chinese Tui-Na massage(推拿)?

Chinese Tui-Na massage is a traditional therapeutic bodywork modality within Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) that uses hands-on techniques such as pushing, kneading, grasping, and joint mobilization to stimulate acupuncture points and meridians. Grounded in TCM theory, Tui-Na aims to regulate Qi and blood circulation, restore Yin–Yang balance, and support the body’s natural healing processes. It is commonly used to address musculoskeletal pain, joint dysfunction, stress-related conditions, and internal imbalances, and is typically performed fully clothed as part of a comprehensive, clinically focused TCM treatment approach.
